figuring out the details

hey welcome back!!! so this week my partner and i have decided to figure out every detail of our opening. We figured that by knowing all the small details we would be able to film better and have a better turn out. We also decided on watching the movie fatal attraction to get some kind of idea. Since the genre is similar to what we're working with. We are able to know what we should aim for in a movie that involves a stalker. As always I'll keep you updated.

Sincerely,
Isa

Updating

Hey guys how are you ? So it’s spring break and my partner and I are still finishing up some touches for our research. We haven’t really had time to film due to our schedules being so busy but I hope that once break is over we finish filming in a couple of days. The rest of the days will be dedicated to editing all the sound and little clips to make it perfect. As you guys know editing is the most important aspect of a film opening and it’s what makes it good. As always I’ll keep you guys updated!! Hope you guys are having an awesome spring break too!

Sincerely,

Isa

Meetings....

So this week we had our first group meetings and I thought they went really well. My partner and I were broken up and each went to a different group, which made sense so we both got different feed back. In my group I explained what our opening was and my group members each told me what could improve. They told me how I shouldn't start with a POV shot instead start with a medium, I agreed because it made more sense than a pov. We also talked about editing and how it's the hardest part of the project that requires the most time. That's why my partner and I are going to start filming this week, so we have all of spring break to edit and re-shoot scenes that didn't come out good. We don't want to run out of time and have to do thing's messy so we work with all the time we have. After both of us discussing with our groups we met up and talked about each idea got. My partners group had a really good that was to start with parallel editing from the stalkers perspective and the girls perspective, this allows the stalker to show more of a creepy side. We think we might change that from our original one. Overall the group meetings really helped, they allowed me to see other people's ideas and how they work. I can't wait for our next one !!! As always I'll keep you guys updated! Chaooo (bye).

Isa

Audience

Helloooo!! Today in class we had time to work on our project. So this post is going to be about how my partner and I have decided to research more of our horror movie target audience and sound. The usual target audience for horror movies is 15-25 years old, this is because of the way they are developing themselves. They are trying to find a place in the world, playing and experimenting with their different feelings and emotions. Horror movies bring a sense of thrill and excitement into the younger crowds not so much the older crowds. The younger crowd is more used seeing the violence and bloody images in these types of movies. In this website they also talked about stereotypes. Males are most likely to be more interested in the horror genre due to all the violent graphics they see in video games. This movies are relatively aimed for working class community this is due to the cheap prices. Another audience that horror movies get is couples, The Cabin in the Woods major audience was couples, also with A Nightmare on Elm street. Couples generally go to watch horror movies generally to get comfortable with one another and have a feeling of protection. For sound as I talked about it in my last post it is very important. In no film school it states how sounds can be scary: be being sudden or by generating a frightful tone. The sound causes a reaction in the brain that causes fear, we can also hear something faster than by actually seeing it. I'll keep you updated with anything new!

Sincerely,
Isa

Finding the perfect sound

Hey what's up guys!! Welcome back to another exciting week. Today in class we got time to work on our projects and keep the process going. In this blog I'm going to be talking about the soundtrack, editing software, and the weather problems. I've started researching soundtracks used in horror movies to get a general idea of what we're suppose to aim for. In the websites I've found mostly all the same horror movies pop up that have generally the same soundtrack. In Collider and nme both made a list of the best horror movie soundtrack and explained why. This helped me get a better understanding of the sounds and how they work with what's going on in the scene. Sound is a very essential tool in horror movies it's what makes the audience feel the suspense, terror, thriller all at once. Personally when I watch horror movies the sounds is what always gets me, no matter what's on the screen the noise that follows it makes the movie more tense. So obviously, having a good soundtrack is important for our project. But we realized that whatever music we got we had to get the copyright from the owner. While researching the music we came upon this website and Mrs.Stoklosa had recommended it for us, which is called purple planet. This websites has categories on upbeat, tense, drama, relaxing, and many more. Once you click on one of the categories a set of sounds are going to come up and on the top right side corner you see a "download" button and it allows you to download it onto your computer. My partner and I have decided to use "Inferno" in the horror background category and "Outcast" under the creepy section. We decided upon this because we felt like it went with what we're going to film and helps set our story. As far as editing we were looking at editing softwares we would use and realized that mostly all of them were very expensive, so we decided on sticking to the latest version of iMovie.  Today we were going to start filming some of our stuff but as always the weather in South Florida didn't allow this, while deciding where to shoot it started pouring on us so we had to stop and try another day. Muchisimas gracias por su tiempo y pronto les cuento mas! (Thank you so much for your time and soon I'll let you know more!)

Sincerely,
Isa

Scheduling

Hola amigos !!! So I'm starting this new thing that every week I'm going to say a word in spanish and educate those who are non-speakers. Anyways so this week has been basically been about finishing our storyboard, figuring out if we need any more research, and scheduling our time. Scheduling has to be the most important thing for a project to work out. Without it we would be all over the place and not be getting things done. It allows you to know how many days you have in order to edit or remake something. In the real world directors need to sit down and figure out what actors can work on which days, the budget, the setting, and the editing. With so many things to keep track of it's normal for people to forget about things thus having a schedule makes everyone's life easier. In the two websites I read preproduction and dummies they both state how important timing is. Anyone can have a major screw-up and the best way to fix it is with the left over time from the scheduling. My partner and I have also decided to ask her neighbor if he would be interested in helping us film our opening. We need an extra person and decided he would be the best fit since he lives right next to her and we're going to be filming mostly at her house. We're going to start filming this week and hopefully be finished by next week so we have over 3 weeks to edit all of our credit and sounds. Editing has always been on of my struggles so I know that with this project it won't be any different. I'm hoping that with all the projects we've done over the course of the class I can put all my skills to the test and hope for a good outcome. Muchas gracias por tener el tiempo para leer mi blog !!!! (Thank you very much for having the time to read my blog) As always I'll keep you guys updated.

Sincerely,
Isa

2nd time is the charm

Hi guys, happy Friday!!!! So my partner and I have realized a lot of things that we’ve done wrong in the course of this project . In my last post I talked about how our storyboard was still in the works but that’s not true. After looking at it for a while we realized we had too many shots for a film opening so we decided to ask Mrs.Stoklosa her opinion and we were right. We had too many shots...  After giving us some advice on what we should to reduce the shots we went back to change it. Instead of telling the whole movie In just a film opening we decided to leave the audience hanging with the last scene. We reduced the shots from 39 to 20, which is a major change. We also made our schedule for the next days until the project is due. By having this planned out we have a better way of giving ourselves enough time to film and edit. Knowing that we both aren’t the best people at editing having enough time is the best thing we can do. We can to show our best work and time is always important. I hope you like the storyboard and how everything is planned out. As always I’ll keep you updated with any changes!!!!

Isa

Drawing? I don't think so

Hello again, I'm back!!!!! Since last time I posted a lot has happened.  My partner and I have started creating our storyboard for our film opening. Those that don't know what a storyboard is, it's basically where you write shot after shot telling the story via the shots. Detailing what kind of shot was used and explaining what is happening in each of them. We both sat down and started brainstorming every idea we had and wrote them done, after of thinking we finally came up with the perfect film opening. We only ran into a small little problem, neither of us can draw... The whole point of the storyboard is to show what each scenes look like and if we don't know how to draw than we have a problem. After many tries of trying to draw what we were thinking we came to the conclusion that it wasn't going to work. So, we thought of a new idea, lets show each scene with a picture instead of a drawing and that's what we did. The best thing of using photos instead of drawings is that the audience can actually see how the actors look like and they don't have to imagine something that's completely wrong. With the picture that you're going to see attached at the bottom of the page you're going to notice that we only have 3 pictures.. We haven't had the time to take the rest but in the storyboard you see all of the scenes with the shots that we're going to use. The next post should definitely have more pictures and information. As always I'll keep you updated with anything new.

Isa

Running into difficulties

Hi guys, welcome back!! So this week my partner and I ran into one of our many problems with this project. We were researching fonts we could use on the title of our movie and weren't sure what route we could go on, so we decided to look at the different websites for fonts. With our theme being horror/thriller we decided to go in deeper with our searching and search up horror movie fonts, obviously having a scary font is very important. We found a website we both really liked and if you're interested here it is Da font. With this website you can actually see all the different types of fonts there is and experiment with it, so that's what we did. There's also a search bar where it says "custom review" where you are actually able to type in your phrase and see it in the different font. Also another really cool thing about this website is that most of the fonts are free and don't have to pay for the download. Once we found the font we liked which is "True Lies" we started working on trying to download it into our computer and after many tries we couldn't. This is when our troubles started. I didn't know what we were doing wrong and started getting frustrated. After calming down we went to ask Mrs.Stoklosa on how to do it, after many tries with her and still not being able to do it with her she emailed us a tutorial on how do guide us. After watching the tutorial and being able to download it my partner and I couldn't have been more excited. Here's the tutorial we watched, downloading fonts.  Our movie is called "Fatal Attraction" and what inspired us to call this movie this was the actual meaning of the phrase. Fatal attraction comes from the phrase fatal attraction syndrome which means to have a stalking behavior and borderline personality. This goes perfectly with the theme of our movie, which is about a guy stalking a girl that just moved in into their neighborhood. After having the downloading problem figured out we were able to focus on other important aspects of the movie such as; the main characters and the setting. With this we are able to get more creative with our movie and have more of a personal feeling with it. I obviously know I'm not the most technological person there is but as this projects progressives I hope to improve on my skills and be able to show with our work that we are producing. As always I'll keep you guys updated with any news regrading the movie. P.S. this is what our title would look like with our font.

Sincerely,
Isa

Research & Planning continues

Hi again!!! My partner and I have decided to add thriller into the mix, our film opening is now going to be horror/thriller. We've decided upon this because we felt that our target audience fits perfectly with the theme. With our target audience being 15-25 years old our production has to be up to date. We chose to go the thriller route due to the many amazing productions. One of the best thriller movies is "Psycho" directed by Alfred Hitchcock. We did an analysis essay on this movie during class, and it intrigued me how the thriller genre has be around for so long. The film was produced in 1960, had a $806,947 production budget, and the domestic total gross was  $32,000,000 according to box office. Another major thriller movie is "Get Out", directed by Jordan Peele; it was just recently nominated for an Oscar for Best Motion Picture.  The movie had a $5,000,000 production budget and made over $255,090,124 in worldwide box office. For other information about the movie you can go on The numbers . I personally loved this movie and how it was produced, it made you think of what was going on with the thriller sense still going on. My partner and I personally love horror/thriller movies. I think they keep me on the edge of my feet all the way towards the end. In film site they stated that this kind of film promotes a sense of anticipation, suspense, and excitement. Our plot of the movie is based on a new girl moving into a small town and getting settled with her surroundings. As she's getting ready to start her first day at school, she meets a guy that is crazy obsessed with her. Following her around, finding out where she lives, and not leaving her alone.  She tries everything to keep him away, but all odds fail. He just becomes crazier as time goes on. We have a teenage girl as the main character due to our target audience being mostly teenagers. This movie shows the innocence and vulnerability of a high school girl, letting others relate to her. Anything like this can happen to anyone without noticing. I'll keep you guys updated with any other things we brainstorm, and how our production is going. I really hope what we're trying to portray comes out in the way we're thinking of it! I have so many ideas, I'm so excited!

Sincerely,
Isa
